The end of the school year is coming and with it the temptation to just make it to the end of the year, just get this one thing done, and to procrastinate for way too much time which you'll end up regretting later, is coming on strong. So here's your friendly reminder to always find your better best.
To be quite frank, we all slip into the I'll half-ass this assignment and it will be FINE. I only need a 15% to pass this quiz. And even, well, I could not even show up to the final to pass the class. But, in a world like we live in, we have to do our best every day to make an advocate out of everyone. Always go the extra mile to make your assignment stand out to the teacher, always stay an extra five minutes to clean up after a big event, and never miss an opportunity to ask if you can help.
It's hard when we find ourselves so stretched for time day in and day out, especially at the end of the semester when "Oh that's not due till May" doesn't work because "Oh, NO! It's May..." But, taking the extra five minutes or even an hour to go the extra mile will never hurt anyone. So yes, maybe I lose a little bit of sleep, but the friends I've gained are worth so much more.
It's also important in "Finding your better best," to take time to yourself to reflect a little on the day. So maybe this didn't go as planned or I took three hours to watch "Jane The Virgin" on Netflix. Taking a few minutes to reflect on what you can do better in the future, the best parts and worst parts of the day, and just overall how you feel can help you to focus more on what's important. Not that a Netflix break isn't sometimes just totally warranted.
The biggest thing to take away from this is just doing better for yourself and others. It's really hard sometimes to remember how short our time is in this place whether it be college, a job and even life. I find it really important that we all take the time to reflect on what we can do better as humans not only to enjoy more where we are at right now, but to make others advocates for us.
It may sound like you are using people, but in reality, you're doing things for them because you know helping is the right thing to do. Them becoming an advocate of your character because of that is totally their opinion of you. But in this world, other people's opinions matter. And by being a better you, by trying new things, spending the extra ten minutes to help someone, you're helping yourself.
So, go out into the world, crush the end of the semester, spend an extra ten minutes helping someone, out, and reflect on yourself and your experiences at the end of the day. In all reality, this life is yours and by finding your better best, you're only making your life better for you.
