Finals week: to some it may be known as hell week.

For those of you innocent souls who have never experienced a horrific event such as this, let me describe it to you. This is a dreadful week where in the time leading up to it a horrible stain of regret sets in along with stress and the feeling of impending doom. During this week, everyone just happens to get strep throat and pneumonia because they neglect taking care of their bodies over getting a good GPA and mental sanity is basically thrown out the window. After this week of doom, disease, and failure, everyone tries their very best to push past the horrid memories of late nights and an overdose of coffee running through their veins instead of blood. But they know that all their relatives are going to ask "How is school going?" over Christmas dinner, and at this point it will all come rushing back but with it a sense of accomplishment and pride knowing that no matter what the grade, you never have to set foot in those classes again.

Doesn't it just sound dandy?

1. When you hug your roommate goodbye before going to take your first final.

2. When your innocent little sister says "Wow you seem stressed", but college is coming for her next.

3. When your math final has been moved to 8 a.m. on Monday.

4. When your roommate only has one cumulative final and the rest are just regular tests.

5. When you're trying to get into the Christmas spirit but can't because you still have five finals left.

6. When you realize the stressful week that you just went through, yet survived.

7. When you finish your last final and are walking back to your dorm, knowing others around you are still on their way to take finals.

8. When you finally make it back home to see your family and you act like the last week of dread didn't even happen.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
