If you haven’t heard of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, it’s a Netflix show that we have the comedy queen Tina Fey to thank for. It follows Kimmy, who is beginning her life in New York City after she lived in a bunker for fifteen years. She was kidnapped and forced to live there as part of a doomsday cult; she thought the world had ended, and after her rescue, she’s living her life to its fullest.
As college students, we may believe the world is ending too. We won’t make it past finals week, there’s no way. We’re bogged down by papers, presentations, tests, there’s no way we’ll see summer. Just as Kimmy decided to not let her fifteen years in the bunker hold her back, we are not letting a tough semester hold us back from acing finals and making the most of summer. To students who are struggling through finals week, we are all unbreakable! So how would Kimmy get through them?
1. First comes the mood swings. You’ve been in the library for eight hours, you need a snack, and you just remembered you still have another paper due.
2. Next, you make other sacrifices so all your school work can get done. Less time to eat and sleep, of course.
3. Just take on a little bit at a time and you can get through this. You’ll finish your one paper tonight, then you’ll prepare for your one presentation tomorrow. Little by little, you'll get through this.
4. We just have to remember to stay confident, and we will get through this week.
5. But then you remember, you have other obligations to balance. Like your job, paying those couple bills, your laundry this week, and you can’t miss Game of Thrones either.
6. But then, you remember you’re in the homestretch. Just one exam left, then say hello to summer. You can do this!
7. It’s Friday and you just walked out of your last exam. You’ve made it, finally!
8. Say hello to summer! Now it’s time to celebrate.
The world hasn’t ended, and your summer's just getting started. Yes, you still have to wait out grades being posted, but you’ve finished and that’s something to celebrate!
