As a die-hard Cubs fan and a college student, I would describe Anthony Rizzo and Cubbies baseball as one of my favorite things, and finals as one of my least favorite. I mean, there isn’t even baseball during finals week to help you cope with the fact that you have to take tests on information that you learned across an ENTIRE semester. Finals is a time where stress and anxiety are at an all-time high, but your motivation and happiness levels may be on the lower end of the spectrum. But have no fear, Anthony Rizzo is here to save the day (I mean isn’t he always though?). There is no better person to describe all of the emotions that you encounter during finals week, and honestly, there is no better face to look at than this beautiful baseball boy.
When you realize that final exams are next week
Realizing that final exams are even closer than you realized is a scary time. It's when you realize that you need to learn all the information you were taught in a semester in one week. Stress usually follows this realization, and if you say that you’re calm and not worried about finals week, well Rizzo and I both know you’re lying.
When you’ve been studying for your final exams for hours and you physically cannot retain any more information
The moment when you look at your textbook or notes and realize that your brain is so full that you’re not even sure you know your own name anymore. All the calculus and geography and biology information you’ve compacted into your brain has taken over, and the struggle is all too real when trying to decide how you’re going to fit the next ten chapters into your brain in the next two hours.
When you are your friend both get the same answer to a question on the study guide
The moment when you realize that you both got the same answer AND you both got it right, is probably one of the only exciting moments you’ll experience during finals week. Knowing that you’re at least one question closer to doing well on your final may make you smile. You just have to remember to appreciate the little things in life, and is definitely worthy of a study break.
When you walk into a final that you know you’re winging
This is when you know you really didn’t study that much, but you’re ok with it and you’re totally just going with the flow. You send a little prayer up to the geography gods or biology gods to help you through the exam but have decided that you’re ok with whatever happens.
When you get a good grade on the final that you chose to wing
This is the moment that you’re probably in shock, kinda like when Rizzo realized that the Cubs won the World Series. Seeing that you totally aced a test that you thought you were gonna bomb can take away all your finals stress, even if only for a like a second, and makes you think that you can totally wing the rest of your finals, though you totally can’t.
When your teacher makes the final optional
An optional final is a perfect gift from the finals gods because you know for a fact that you’re not gonna attend it even if you need to. I mean, what sounds better, studying for a final and maybe doing well on it, or watching Netflix in you’re bed. I’m gonna go with the latter.
When finals week is over and you are finally free to enjoy winter break
Finally, hell week and finals are over, and you can finally relax. It’s the best time of the year when you can go home to your dog, curl up in front of the Christmas tree, and watch your favorite Christmas movies with some Christmas cookies. I mean there is honestly nothing better, and Rizzo definitely agrees.
