Why Finals Are Like Coffee
swaddacoffee.com

A lot of people drink coffee. I personally love coffee. I don’t know what I would do without it. Of course, I add a ton of sugar and cream to mine. However, some people drink it plain. Why am I talking about coffee? Well, I was reflecting on what to write about for this week while sitting in my kitchen. I slowly glanced over at my brother’s coffee pot with the coffee filters sitting on top of it. The idea popped into my head all of a sudden, “Finals are kind of like coffee… in a weird way”. (It’s also appropriate with all the tests coming up because I figure coffee will be consumed a lot this week). How the heck are finals like coffee? Well, maybe less like finals and more like our brains. I’ll explain.

So by now you have hopefully studied for your finals. You probably sat down for hours at a time looking over things and reading several readings, studying the study guides, looking at old homework, quizzing yourself with notecards, etc. By doing all of this, you have gained knowledge about what might be on the final. If you didn’t prepare for the final, you probably wouldn’t get a good grade. How is this like coffee? Well, like I said, I like my coffee with cream and sugar in it. So the way I look at it is the coffee is our brain, the cream and sugar is the knowledge, and the spoon is our ability to retain the knowledge we have put in our brains. Just like the spoon mixes the cream and sugar in the coffee to even it out, we must do that with the knowledge/things we study. Plain coffee is the equivalent to our brains before we study for all our finals. Most people will put cream and/or sugar in their coffee because they can’t drink it plain. Same geos for studying for finals. People study for finals because most of the time they will not do well if they don’t study. We need to mix our minds with knowledge, just like we mix our coffee with cream and/or sugar.

You may not have understood the point of this article, but I figured during the stressful time of year, we could use a coffee analogy as some kind of motivation to study and do well on finals! Don’t be plain coffee during finals week. Be a cream and sugar type of person and I think you’ll do just fine!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
