Thanksgiving Break is over... finals are coming. With that in mind, I want to remind each and every college student there preparing themselves for finals week and mental breakdowns that your mental health is more important than any exam, project, or final presentation. In the end, you have to take care of yourself.
Over Thanksgiving Break, I did no work. I took all the worries about projects, homework, deadlines, and assignments on the backburner and didn't even worry about it. And It. Was. Magical. I came back to my campus today and yes, I started to worry and freak out a little bit.
But you know what?
That little mental health break I had (a week) taught me that everything will turn out fine. I'll complete my assignments. There is absolutely no need to pull your hair out over one, two, or five exams in one week. There is absolutely no need to have a mental breakdown of three group projects. You will get it done. I will get it done. And hey, Christmas (break) is a great motivator for finals week.
So, put some Christmas music on, turn on your twinkly lights in your room, call your Mom, eat some cookies, hang up a Christmas tree...whatever you need to relax your anxiety and start studying. Because your mental health is the most important thing in your world. It's good to think about yourself. It's good to dedicate one day to relax and take a break from the world around you.
If you don't believe me, just turn to God — he created the world in six days and on the seventh, he rested. Take a rest day. You deserve it.
