Finals Week As Told By Parks And Rec

Finals week is upon us and it's time for our biannual, major freakout. Of course every professor you have assigns you a project, a 5-8 page explanation of that project, and a final exam as well. Every. Single. Professor. Hence all of the silently sobbing students you'll be seeing around campus for the next week.

Just looking at all the work you have to do can paralyze you. Seriously, working on individual projects, group projects, writing essays, and studying for finals in all your classes?! It's way too much and looking at the amount of work ahead of you is totally daunting...

And of course, even though you know just how much work you have to do, you procrastinate and put it off until the very last minute. Every single semester we tell ourselves we aren't going to do it, and every single semester here we are, the day before the final, pulling an all-nighter and "studying" frantically...AGAIN. When will we learn?

This is the point where you swear off all social contact until finals are over. Usually this works for a while, you turn your phone off for a few hours and are surprisingly productive, but sometimes you just need to vent to your friends about how stressed out you are! And hey, "study groups" are productive, right? RIGHT?

Oops, you got caught watching Netflix instead of studying. Again. You were doing so well but then you needed a break and that break may or may not have lasted for the entire season of the show you're binge watching. Why did you think it would be okay to start watching a new show right before finals in the first place?! Gotta pretend like you actually got something done today...

At this point, you're pretty much just shouting out any information that you actually do know. You may not know what anything about your Spanish final but you do remember random facts about chemistry so that has to count for something, right? No? Darn.

Everything besides finals is irrelevant at this point. Showering? Not important. Eating? Not important. Socialization? Not important. Breathing? Not important.

Normal functions start to become a problem. You know that point when you've been staring at your computer for hours upon hours and your eyes start to lose focus and then your mind kind of turns to mush? Yeah...that lasts pretty much the whole entire week...

Interacting with other students usually involves a contest of "who has it worse". Oh, you have two projects and three finals? Well I have two projects, three finals and an essay all due!

Absolutely no effort goes into your appearances this week. Why bother trying to look good when you're going to fail anyways? Comfort is key this week, so baggy sweatpants, huge t-shirts and un-brushed, messy hair is the style for the week, get used to it.

You celebrate as soon as they're done! Drinks to celebrate as soon as you walk out of that last final!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
