Over the last 19 years, I have learned a few things about myself as well as other people and the world around me. Some of those things were harder to learn than others. Some I am still working on. Here are just a few of the lessons that I have learned so far.

1. Procrastination is your worst enemy.

I still have trouble with this. In the long run, it is better to just get things done ahead of time rather than waiting until the last minute. It will save a lot of stress.

2. Writing is the best and cheapest form of therapy.

A lot of people will say that running is the cheapest form of therapy. As someone who hates running, I have to disagree. Writing allows you to get all of your thoughts down on paper and can help you process them more easily.

3. Do what you love and love what you do.

Do things that you're passionate about. Don't waste time doing things that don't make you happy.

4. Don't do something just to fit in.

The world would be boring if everyone was exactly the same.

5. It does get better.

Sometimes it feels like the awful situation is never going to end, but it will. Life is full of ups and downs.

6. Sometimes you just need a good cry.

Sometimes you just need to watch a sad movie and cry it out with your best friend even if nothing is wrong.

7. Never underestimate the power of a good book

There's something so refreshing about finding a book that you can't put down. Words can be so powerful.

8. Don't be afraid to try something new

It becomes difficult to grow as a person if you are never exposed to anything new.

9. Talk it out.

People don't know what you're thinking unless you tell them. Communication is key.

10. It's okay to not be okay

You don't have to have it together all the time.

11. Be here.

Be present. When you are hanging out with other people don't focus on things you have going on later in the week or things you have to do when you get home. Be in the moment.

12. Experiences are better than material things.

Experiences are so much more rewarding than any material thing you could ever buy.

13. Adjusting takes time

You don't have to have it all together right away. It's okay to take longer to adjust to new situations. Even though it may seem like it, not everyone else has it all together.

14. Nothing is guaranteed

So don't take anything for granted. You aren't promised tomorrow.

15. It's okay to say no

You don't have to go to every single party you're invited to. Sometimes, even if you haven't been busy, you just need a break from being around people.

16. You teach people how to treat you

The way you treat yourself tells other people that they can treat you that way as well. Be kind to yourself.

17. Don't be afraid to be a beginner

There's a first time for everything. You are never too old to start something new.

18. Worrying won't change the outcome.

You have to go do something about it. Sitting there worrying about it won't change anything.

19. You are you and that is beautiful

Be whoever and whatever you want to be without any apologies.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
