Feminists Today Do Not Hate Men

If anything, we encourage equality for both parties.

Feminists Today Do Not Hate Men

Many conservatives seem to think we, as feminists, like to downgrade men.

This isn't true.

Most feminists would never do such a thing. In fact, most feminists believe that equality is for both sides to be equal rather than women having more rights then men. Very few feminists are crazy and think it's OK to do things like going around naked.

That's inappropriate, and like I said, VERY FEW feminists are the crazy ones. Most of us are feminists purely on just needing equality. From keeping rights we've gained in the past, such as voting, to gaining rights still needed, such as closing the wage gap, there is evidence that the feminism movement today is so much more than putting men down for just being men.

Here's what feminism is about: equality. We hope for legislative equality, social equality, and empowerment.

Legislative equality refers to keeping our right to vote, passing the Equal Rights Amendment, and for some, keeping the right to have an abortion. This would lead to men also having the right to vote and getting the same wages we do. What's so hateful about that?

Social equality is about putting a stop to things like catcalling, rape, domestic violence, and just the way women are perceived. This social justice goes for both sides in some situations: one example is that rape doesn't only happen to just women. We want these issues to end, for the betterment of everyone today and in the future. Just take a look at what's going on around you; when's the last time you heard a guy whistle at a girl going by? What about catching a guy staring at a lady's bust or butt? What about knowing a couple that the guy controls the girl in the relationship? Still don't believe social equality is an issue? View this or this or even this. Women are the ones being devalued and we are so much more, as a person and as a human being.

Feminists want to empower everyone, male and female, to be their best self. Feminists hope everyone realizes that they can do anything they put their mind to; it just takes a little hard work and dedication. Each person has their own skills and talents to take them far. Some women would make outstanding presidents, mathematicians, novelists, stay-at-home-moms, scientists, etc. In fact, there has been a black woman who has possibly found the cure to cancer! Watch here:

That's not all! Males can also make great presidents, mathematicians, novelists, stay-at-home-dads, scientists, etc. From Bill Gates to George Washington to Abraham Lincoln, history proves what men are able to do.

It is probably just as important to mention there are many different types of feminists, and one must understand this. Some find legislative justice more important, and some find social justice more important. Some are Christian, and some are Muslim. Some are stay-at-home mothers, and some are in the work-force. Some are pro-lifers, and some are pro-choicers. Feminists today often have many different identities, and with such a wide range of feminists, this proves there must be something going on. This also means there is a very small group of feminists who do have the misconception of what the feminist movement is about. Just take a look at "Myth #1."

In fact, there are guys out there who are feminists. I know a few actually. But this doesn't mean it's OK to make fun of the males just because they call themselves feminists. Being a male feminist does not make you feminine or gay, but it does make you aware of the inequality and allows to give the women a bit more help in obtaining our goal.

So females should stop being so oppressed. We, as women, have the capability to do anything we set our minds to just as much as men do. We are all human beings, and we should all be equal in that aspect because each person is valuable.

This is what feminism is about. The feminist movement today does not downgrade men; it works on upgrading women to have true equality. Women and men are truly unstoppable!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
