Feminism Isn't What You Think

Let's get rid of all of the ridiculous ideas of what feminism is.

Are you a part of the population that believes feminists are ruining society? Do you despise those "bra-burning" and "man-hating" crazies? I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you too, my friend, might be a feminist! *GASP* I know, right?!

Since being at college I have spoken to way too many people that don't call themselves feminists, and even more that don't truly understand what feminism is - despite their harsh opinions on it. Here are just a few of the ridiculous things I have heard:

"I'm not a feminist because I want to be a stay-at-home wife and mom."

"I don't hate men."

"I just don't get why they blame men for all of their problems."

Let's get this straight. Feminism does not tell you that you can't be a wife or mother. Feminism is about respecting women that choose to stay at home with kids or women that choose to work and never have kids. Feminism is not about hating men, it's about empowering women. It is creating equality among all genders, not creating a "dominant" gender. Feminism is not about blaming men, it is about pointing out and attempting to fix the injustices in society that place men above women.

Feminism doesn't just work for the equality of women, it is about creating equality among all genders, no matter what sexual orientation, class or race. Maybe you think we no longer need feminism. You may say that women have never had more rights than they do now. Or maybe you believe women have never been so respected before. Maybe both of those are true, but that isn't a reason to stop. Women still don't have equality with men. Not in the home, not in the workplace, and not in society. You can still want to fit typical gender roles. You can still want a man to open doors for you and pull out your chair on a date. None of this conflicts with feminism.

It's time people begin educating themselves before spewing hate. In the world we live in today, ignorance is outdated.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
