The NFL just can't seem to catch a break lately.
This week, Carolina Panthers Quarterback, Cam Newton, is under fire after laughing and making sexist comments towards a female reporter. The reporter, Jourdan Rodrigue, from The Carolina Observer asked Newton a question regarding "routes" during a press conference.
Newton laughed at Rodrigue then said "it’s funny to hear a female talk about routes. It’s funny.” Newton then later went on to answer the original question. Rodrigue then went on her Twitter to respond to Newton's comments saying "I don't think it's 'funny' to be female and talk about routes, "I think it's my job."
Holy sh*t! Women are catching on as to how football works?! What's next? Actually demanding that we respect them and treat them as equals?
While women have made great gains in almost all areas of media, it is no secret that sports media is still a male-dominated industry. There are lots of women who are not particularly interested in sports, and that's perfectly fine. But it doesn't you have to be an a**hole to women that are interested.
Newton has since released an apology to Rodrigue after Donnon dropped their sponsorship for him. But it just goes to show that women still have a long way to go when it comes to finally being treated as equals in, not just sports media, but also all male dominated industries.
