Feeling Sh*tty? Here Are 4 Things To Make You Feel Less Like Poop

I thought I would feel better after midterms were over, but I don't- if anything I feel worse. The studying hasn't stopped, the classes just seem to be getting worse, and I'm beyond ready to go on a break. So, if you're feeling shitty, because Lord knows I am, then here are some things you can do to help yourself feel a little less like an overcooked potato.

1. Meditate

Giphy

I freaking hate taking the time to meditate, but I did it yesterday and it felt pretty damn good, so maybe I should do it more often. I promise it doesn't require a lot of work and you can do it anywhere that's relatively quiet, so there's no reason not to do it when you need to take a break. If you just google "beginners' meditation" there are literally thousands of websites and videos that can help you out and I promise, it's worth it. It doesn't have to be long, just 15 minutes if that's all you have time for.

2. Movement

Giphy

I don't care what you do- roll off your bed and flop onto the floor, jump, scream, dance like an idiot, lay on your back while simultaneously shaking your hands and feet, whatever it is that you feel like doing as long as you're doing something. Chances are that you're staring at a screen for hours every day so it's important to check in on your limbs every once in a while, to make sure they still work.

3. Don’t Forget What You Really Are...

Giphy

… A houseplant with complicated emotions! You need to water yourself, feed yourself, and get some sunshine/be placed outside for a little bit every day- ya know, the basics. You should also remember to clean yourself every so often, which I don't think plants do, but you should definitely do that if you need to.

4. Take a Break That Does NOT Involve Screens

Giphy

I'm guilty of this because it's easy, but easy doesn't help when you're two minutes away from dying your hair, sneaking across the Canadian border, adopting a cat, and creating a new life for yourself instead of dealing with your stress in a productive way. When you need a break from your online classes, do NOT go watch TikToks for the next three hours. I don't care what you do as long as you aren't replacing your computer screen for your itty-bitty phone screen, but you better not be looking at a screen.

Here are four things you can do on a daily basis to feel less like sh*t.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
