Did your favorite Christmas movie make my list?

10 Of My Favorite Holiday Movies

It's common for lists to pop up of suggested holiday movies when the end of the year rolls around, and I decided to join in on the fun. The list below contains my personal top 10 favorite holiday movies, a few of them classics everyone will likely recognize, and a couple you should definitely add to your own list if you haven't already.

1. "A Christmas Carol" (1984)

George C. Scott's performance as the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge is by far my favorite rendition of Charles Dickens' classic character. The best part about this particular Christmas movie, for me, is how downright creepy some of it is. Who doesn't want a medley of horror and heartwarming moments in a holiday film?

2. "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" (1966)

Who doesn't love Thurl Ravenscroft's "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" from the original cartoon adaptation? Not only is Dr. Seuss' most popular character such a fun one, especially the journey he goes through and the overall message of love at the end, but in and out of the Christmas theme, "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" holds up as one of the best cartoon movies to this day.

3. "Die Hard" (1988)

First things first: Yes, it is a Christmas movie.

Second: If you're looking for a classic, bloody action flick with some holiday flavor and Bruce Willis yelling his famous "Yippee-Ki-Yay" line, then "Die Hard" is the perfect movie for you.

4. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (1964)

We all know the song and the story. This classic contains arguably the most important message of all: There's nothing wrong with being different, and we should all treat each other with love and acceptance.

5. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)

I call this movie a two for one, in that it's a perfect Halloween movie and works just as well for Christmas, which may have been part of the idea behind Tim Burton's most popular animated film.

6. "The Santa Clause" (1994)

I have a personal connection to this movie because of my dad, who passed away earlier this year. I haven't seen it in years, but whenever I think of Tim Allen as "The Santa Clause" I always think of my father who loved this movie as much as I did when I was a kid.

7. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989)

Sometimes we just want a few good laughs to celebrate the holidays. If you're looking for a wild, over-the-top comedy where if anything can go wrong it will, National Lampoon movies are always a good bet.

8. "A Christmas Story" (1983)

Yeah, this is a pretty great movie, but that's not why I added it to the list. When I was a kid I once shot myself via ricochet with a BB gun, so I relate on an emotional level to poor little Ralphie. Protect those eyes, kids.

9. "Home Alone" (1990)

This is either one of the most entertaining holiday movies of a clever kid versus potential robbers, or an example of a serious case of parental responsibility gone wrong. Either way, "Home Alone" is a classic that brings plenty of laughs and, eventually, the Christmas spirit.

10. "Bad Santa" (2003)

For those feeling especially naughty, look no further. Sometimes it's not the wholesome humor we seek, but the raunchy, offensive fun that Billy Bob Thornton brings to his outrageous role in "Bad Santa."

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
