My Favorite Brunch Places, Ranked

As anyone who hates waking up early but loves breakfast food will tell you, brunch is the most important meal of the day. Being a huge foodie (who has debated the pros and cons of quitting school to become a food blogger), I’ve had my fair share of brunches. And with this grand knowledge, I’ve picked my six favorite brunch places -spanning three different states- and ranked them for your convenience (and yes, there are pictures).

6. Rise-n-Dine

Atlanta, GA

Easily one of the cutest little breakfast places with the best comfort breakfast food. It’s easy to try something new there every time you go and never be disappointed. And, being so close to the Emory campus, it's also easy to go regularly.

(To try: the Lox Scramble with veggie cream cheese.)

5. Sarabeth’s

New York City, NY

A classic, to say the least. I have really fond memories at various Sarabeth’s, as it was where I went for my fourteenth birthday and also where I went right before I saw Hamilton. All the Sarabeth’s have the same happy interior with lots of windows and light.

(To try: the Avocado and Burrata Toast, pictured. Self explanatory.)

4. Tipsy Parson

New York City, NY

When I took my sister on her first New York City Food Tour, I picked this cute little restaurant as the start for our trip through Chelsea. The food was all super fresh and Instagram-able, and the decor made the atmosphere cozy and quaint.

(To try: the Mushroom Toast, pictured.)

3. West Egg Cafe

Atlanta, GA

I’ve only been to West Egg once, but it’s so high on the list due to the sheer fact that I had garlic grits with my eggs. The vegetarian sausage patty was fab- and as a vegetarian on the dining plan, I am grateful to get some palatable protein whenever I can- and the egg-drenched biscuit was all I could ask for. But garlic and I have a (sometimes embarrassing) love affair, and the grits at West Egg made the hour long wait somewhat more tolerable.

(To try: anything that comes with the garlic grits, evidently.)

2. The General Muir

Atlanta, GA

The General Muir is what is known as an unproblematic fav. Sure; there’s a wait, but it’s nothing like West Egg. Yeah; they may not serve the pastry basket past a certain hour, but you'll never be unsatisfied there. Side note: it's a fab place to take your family to on parents weekend.

(To try: the Avenue A bagel, not pictured.)

1. The Olde Bluebird Inn

Easton, CT

Bluebird gets you excited to wake up at the crack of dawn so you can beat the lines; Bluebird serves you with enough food for two of you on one plate; you don’t just go to Bluebird, it’s an emotional experience.

(To try: the coffee cake and also everything.)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
