Dear Dad,
I know you don't like occasions that revolve around you in any way at all, but this holiday is one of my favorites. Father's Day is the day I get to thank the sole person in my life that has had the greatest impact on me as a person. This day allows me to finally give something back to you, after you have given an insurmountable amount to me. I owe you an immeasurable amount of "thank you's", but here are just a few of the most important.
Thank you for setting my priorities straight.
I thank you for instilling the importance of an education in my life. You have never taught me to place the less important things above my schooling. As much as I loved sports and hanging out with friends in school, I always knew my school work came first, whether I liked it or not. You have always kept me on track and given me the best advice that any person can.
Thank you for our fishing trips.
You always say on the lake, "What girls would get up so early to come out here and fish with their dad on a weekend?", however, I always think of it as being privileged enough to have a dad that would set aside the time to take me fishing. Thank you for always untangling my line that constantly gets stuck in the water and taking the fish off the hook so I don't hook myself all day.
Thank you for my love of football and sports in general.
Thanks to you, I get to enjoy the most entertaining and action-packed sport there is. Thank you for always answering my never-ending questions during games growing up and wearing out the pause button on the TV for me. Because of you, I eagerly wait each year for the season to start and turning the channel to SportsCenter is as entertaining as ever. Boomer Sooner!
Thank you for setting the bar high.
Being your daughter, and taking after your personality, I have become quite the perfectionist thanks to you. (Towards you, I call it being a control freak, but we'll use perfectionist for now.) You always set expectations high growing up, and now that I am more grown, I find myself setting them high personally as well. It's a love/hate relationship with this quality that you have given me, but I thank you for inevitably setting me up for success.
Thank you for your sense of humor.
Thank you for being Gentry and I's best friend. We can always count on joking around with you and possibly getting embarrassed by you in public. All of our little inside stories, nicknames and jokes together will never get old.
Thank you for your sacrifices.
This is my deepest thank you to you as my dad. Whether it is a sacrifice of your time or money, you have never let me go without. In high school, it was a sacrifice of your time for my sporting events and ceremonies that you refused to miss out on. Now, I thank you for helping me out financially with the burden of paying for college education. I have never had to ask you for more, because your sacrifices have always been too much.
I love you, and Happy Father's Day!
