To My Trend Followers, Here Are 11 Style Trends I Questioned But Now Wear ALL The Time

Sometimes following the crowd isn't such a bad idea.

Fashion is funny. It's always changing to match some arbitrary rules set by some abstract group of "experts." As designers produce the clothes, we buy them — usually without questioning what exactly it is that we are buying. Sometimes though, we question these trends, or at least I do.

Even with the natural human desire to do as others do, there are quite a few trends that I question (like right now, I can't get into tie-dye matching sets). However, I've found over time that a few of them have really started to grow on me.

1. Chacos

Amazon

I'm not outdoorsy, but I did work at the Y last summer. I needed shoes that I would be able to easily chase kids around in all day. I figured these funky sandals were at least worth trying — and now they're the first pair of sandals I've been reaching for this season.

2. Birkenstocks

When I first saw these, I didn't like them. Frankly, I thought they were straight up ugly. Then I realized I needed a pair of neutral sandals and I completely changed my tune. I now own two pairs, oops!

3. Key Ring Bracelet

Amazon

I just kind of thought this one was ugly and unnecessary. Not sure why, but I did. I couldn't have been more wrong. It's SO functional, especially when you have an armful of stuff and you need to unlock your front door.

4. Leggings as Pants

Amazon

This was an old one that started out as a trend. I didn't think it would stick, and I also didn't like it. Now as a college student, I think I wear leggings more than I wear "real" pants. My bad.

5. Big Glasses

I have a small face, so big glasses aren't exactly designed for me. Plus, I thought they were geeky... at first. My current glasses are big and black and I couldn't love them more!

6. Baggy Sweatshirts

Amazon

When everyone started wearing plain, oversized sweatshirts, I wasn't really into it. I thought I would lose structure in my outfits and that the comfort wasn't worth the look. I believe I now own five or six of these sweatshirts and I have no shame.

7. Joggers

Amazon

When joggers first became popular, I couldn't really understand why. I felt uncomfortable wearing glorified pajamas in public, and that's what I thought joggers were. Now, I think of every excuse to wear my favorite pair to class.

8. Camo

I can't believe this is true because it's now my favorite pattern, but I used to hate the camo trend. I don't know why, but I did. I'm glad it has stuck around long enough for me to get on board!

9. Pleather Leggings or Pants

Amazon

I had mixed feelings about these when they first came out, but I decided to buy a pair of the leggings anyway, and they quickly became a staple of my winter wardrobe. They're a fun way to dress up a sweater or sweatshirt and keep you looking edgy.

10. Chokers

Target

This was a trend from a few years ago that I was very meh about. Then everyone started wearing them and I felt compelled to join in. What can I say? I was in high school (though I still have a few today...).

11. Sherpa Pullovers

Target

Um, what was I thinking?! Sure, I was weirded out by the look of the material at first, but to be able to wear a blanket in public AND be on trend at the same time? Sign me up!

I guess the lesson here is, don't knock it 'till you try it!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
