Two weeks ago, Scott Frost, head coach of the University of Central Florida's football team, made the announcement to transfer over to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. To the distress of many UCF fans, we all had to accept the fact of this beloved coach moving on. On Monday, December 4th, students of the University of Central Florida gathered around the free speech lawn on memory mall for a memorial for Scott Frost. They left flowers, posters, and candles in honor of the former coach.
This proves how much the Central Florida community cared about their adored coach. But, even though this bitter sweet moment, we must look back on all the good times UCF had with Scott Frost.
First off, the most important contribution Scott Frost has made to the UCF community was bringing the revival of the football team. In the past, the University of Central Florida's football team was the laughing stock of the college football teams. Whenever I was with friends and family who followed the team's track record, they would always make fun and talk about UCF in a bad light. But ever since the team was under new management, they went from a 0-12 team to a 13-0 team. That was just two years apart. If anyone told me that the Knight's would jump that far ahead, I wouldn't have believed you.
He put UCF back on the map. By taking a chance on our team, UCF has become an up-and-coming powerhouse. It gave the university more publicity and recognition by the football community and its fans. A once mocked team is now an intimidating group of players. A strong group of men who are capable of taking down rivals such as the University of South Florida in a very close game. Too close to not have been excited. Now that UCF is undefeated, it is time to take this team to the next level. But where could they go from here?
This announcement of his departure was more or less a shock, considering the current University of Central Florida president, John C. Hitt, has decided to retire from his position. Now, having two important spots in the university to be filled, everyone is wondering who will be taking over. Whoever it may be, let's hope they are as strong and confident as our previous leaders and hope for the future success of UCF Knights.
So in all honesty, the University of Central Florida and its community is going to miss you, Mr. Frost. Best of luck with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and with your ever future endeavors. And from all of us at the University of Central Florida, "Change On."
