My Family's Thanksgiving Traditions

What I love most about the Thanksgiving holiday.

It’s that time of the year again. The time where we all sit around the table and say what we are thankful for and then chow down on some delicious food. One of my favorite things in life is my family’s traditions around the holidays.

For as long as I can remember, my family has gone to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. We get there around 1 o’clock and stay the entire afternoon. We have loads of appetizers and catch up with the family. This is one of the few times a year that my entire dad’s side of the family is together in one house. We all usually gather at my aunt’s house, we start in the basement and work our way upstairs.

There are over thirty of us packed into my aunt’s small basement. It's slightly comical watching us all come upstairs for dinner, it’s almost like watching clowns piled into a clown car climbing out of the car. For dinner, we have our usual Thanksgiving feast. We have turkey, ham (for those of us who do not like turkey), turnips, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce (both canned and homemade), creamed onions, string beans, and gravy. Just writing that made me start salivating. It’s safe to say that I cannot wait for Thanksgiving day.

One other thing that I love to do around Thanksgiving is going Black Friday Shopping.

Some people may say I am crazy for that because who likes being out shopping while there are crazy crowds of people surrounding you. But that’s just it, something about shopping while being surrounded by an endless crowd gives me energy. It also helps that there are some pretty killer sales that go on as well. My family (minus my dad who hates shopping, and hates staying up late) will usually go out as soon as we are done with our Thanksgiving celebration. We almost always stay up shopping most hours of the night. Black friday is when I get most, if not all, of my Christmas shopping done as well.

For my family, Thanksgiving day is a day filled with fun and laughter. We almost always say what we are thankful for while sitting around the table. It is honestly one of my favorite days of the year. I love getting to see all of my family in one space, because that does not happen very often. Leave a comment down below and let me know what your favorite Thanksgiving traditions are. Or if you do not have traditions or do not celebrate Thanksgiving, what do you love to do around this time of the year? I would love to hear from you guys!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
