The one thing that excites me the most about going home for Christmas break is spending time with my family. I have a huge family, so all of the gatherings are usually pretty eventful. The producer of the TV show "Parenthood" did an outstanding job of illustrating how a dysfunctional family works. Even though everything is chaotic, it's hard not to love them all.
1. That unexpected dance party with your uncles and aunts
Everyone has that uncle who you think is super professional, but when he is a few drinks in, the music gets turned up and the dancing doesn't stop.
2. Family games are always competitive
Once the teams are picked the game is on. Everyone is determined their team will win, especially that aunt who is super cute but gets serious during a game of Charades.
3. When your whole family reminds you that you are a HS major, so you will, "be broke for the rest of your life"
You are not the future nurse your family wanted you to be, but you have to remind them you will be happy in your career.
4. When that one kid doesn't get attention, so they just scream
Every family has that one kid who has to be the center of attention. If they are not, they will act out until they are.
5. The grandpa that is always encouraging
Like Zeke Braverman, we all have that grandpa who is very generous with the high fives and the encouragement. He is the person in the family you call when you need a little uplifting.
While the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year, your family makes it even better, even with a little bit of dysfunction.
