One special event I attended is the fall plunge. As an incoming freshman, my fear was being alone and not knowing anyone except for my roommate. Through various activities coordinated by the campus cardinal corps leaders, I was able to make new friends and meet a lot of people. Through a lot of team building activities I believe the tension was less for a lot of first year students including myself.
One of the most memorable events was the summit vision with all the LLC groups. A lot of the fun activities at the summit vision especially the zip line and the big swing, made a lot of people face there fears and take the challenge. And most importantly we were able to interact with students that were not only living in our hall but also would be taking the same classes.
I really enjoyed the Otterbein uncensored as well. Through that experience, I’ve learned that I don’t need to rush myself to make friends because true friends never leave. Although college is a lot of fun, I need to know which fun is good and which fun is bad. I learned the importance of knowing who I am, and how I shouldn’t change myself for anyone. All the events on campus for incoming students have taught me that I’m really not alone at Otterbein. I’ve learned that the faculty is here not only to give me the education I need, but they are here to listen to me when I have difficulties, and to support me when I have my struggles.
I thought I would be late to my classes on the first day because I wouldn’t know my way around the campus. But Otterbein provided me with a lot of resources that helped me know my way around campus. And also places I need to go when I need to talk about my schedule or if I have computer problems. I’ve learned that education is not the only thing Otterbein has to offer, it’s a place to find myself and my passion and to meet lifelong friends.
