Why Fall is the Best Season

Pumpkin spice is not the only reason.

Why Fall is the Best Season
Corey Cesare

This article is very overdue. Fall is my personal favorite season, so I am not sure as to why I did not write this sooner. I look forward to fall every year. Here are the main reasons I eagerly wait for fall.

1. Sweater weather.

The weather outside is cold but warm enough where you can get away with going outside in only a sweatshirt (This does not happen much in upstate New York). The days that I can put on a pair of jeans, my Oswego hoodies, and Bear Paw boots, are my happy days. This is my definition of comfort.

2. The trees change colors.

One of the benefits of living on a campus in upstate New York is that you’re surrounded by trees, everything is far away from each other, and once again you’re surrounded by trees. I’m the type of person where I’d rather be surrounded by trees than being stressed out by the feeling of living in a city for the first time in my life. On my very long walk to class, I enjoy taking in the beauty SUNY Oswego has to offer. If you’re looking into Oswego please just remember this: you will not regret how pretty it is here.

3. Fall-related holidays.

I love celebrating fall-related holidays. Halloween is such a fun time to hang out with friends, buy animal onesies, and go to the dining hall in them. Although you may get weird looks, remember that you are having fun and that is all that matters.

I bet you weren’t expecting this story to actually be true. It is, ladies and gentlemen!

The other fall-related holiday I love celebrating is Thanksgiving. It has to be my favorite holiday because I’m very close to my family. I love having an occasion where I know I get to see everyone together for a few hours. I generally cannot wait for November 23rd (ironic because that is also my birthday) to roll around.

4. Pumpkin spice is everything.

Okay listen, I do not even drink coffee. I am not even talking about coffee, I am talking about everything else. Pumpkin lotion, air fresheners, pancakes, ice cream...pumpkin spice everything. This is the one time of the year it is okay to smell like a forgotten about fruit.

5. Halloween themed movies are the best kinds of movies.

These movies are the ones that aren’t for Christmas that you look forward to year round. All of the Halloweentown movies will always have a special spot in my heart for both being an enjoyable part of my childhood and something that really creeped me out occasionally. Some other fan favorites are Twitches,Hocus Pocus and anything in the genre of horror.

6. Apples are in everything.

Being from upstate New York, apple picking is apart of your blood. When I lived in my hometown, my mom and I would go apple picking every weekend. It became such a routine for her and I to pick over a dozen, go home and make fresh picked applesauce or apple pie. Also, apple cider is so important for this time of the year. When they got apple cider in the dining hall I drank at least 3 glasses a day. Remember, an apple a day keeps the doctors away.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
