Being online for a whole semester is sure to kill the extroverts in all of us. So, here is a list of ways to keep the extroverts in us alive while we can't be getting our energy from seeing all our friends at school 24/7 like before.
1. FaceTime your besties from school
It sucks that you can't be sitting on each other's floors until 4 AM like the good old days, but a FaceTime call can bring back a glimpse of that joy and energy.
2. Spend time with your housemates
Even if you don't really like them, these are your people now — learn to love them and have fun! This is the best and safest way to be around people and get your energy from them.
3. Engage in your Zoom classes
You probably don't want to, but this is an awesome chance to interact with other people and put yourself out there!
4. Go to your hall meetings (if you have them)
If you were supposed to live in a dorm this year and your hall is still having Zoom meetings, go! If you do ever go back at some point, the students on those Zooms will be your people! Get to know them and make friends!
5. Meet a friend at the park
Embrace the outdoors! And mask up if you feel more comfortable! This is a great way to get out, see people, stay safe, and stay fit.
6. Talk to your pets
This sounds ridiculous, but having a conversation with a pet can feel like having a conversation with another person, just a little one-sided.
7. Go grocery shopping
This is a great way to get out of the house briefly and safely so long as you are masked up and maintain social distancing. But you will be among other people!
8. Go to virtual office hours
I am sure there is always something you can ask for more clarification on, so head into office hours on Zoom and have a face to talk to.
9. Have a socially distanced picnic
A safe way to get outdoors, eat good food, and hang out with your friends!
10. Talk to yourself
This definitely sounds crazy, but when I am feeling super antsy I talk aloud as if I am talking to someone else, and it makes me feel much better.
11. Call a relative
This is a great way to have a real voice to voice conversation with a real person. Talking on the phone can be awkward at first, but once you break the ice it should feel like a real human interaction!
12. Go to an outdoor ice cream shop
Have some delicious dessert, get outside, and talk to someone to make it happen (while still wearing a mask of course).
13. Get a job
If you can get a weekend job that you feel safe doing, do it! It will likely be an awesome way to meet new people and spend time with them in a safe way.
14. Go to virtual events
I get Facebook notifications and emails from school all the time about virtual social events! Take advantage of these as a great way to interact with others and maybe even have some opportunities that would not otherwise be available to you.
15. Make a Zoom schedule
Make a consistent weekly or bi-weekly schedule to Zoom or FaceTime with your friends that you can't social distance with outside. Knowing that every Friday at 4 you'll get to talk to your gang will keep you motivated, and you'll have an opportunity to gain some energy back when you talk to your people!
