Experiences Trump Saving Money

Don't miss out on making incredible memories, just because you are trying to save a little more.

Over the summer, most college students have two things on their mind: making money and making memories. As a college student, having a part-time summer job, trying to save up for school, budgeting, making memories and doing all the cool fun things you want can prove hard. But the choice is really simple: choose the memories over the money.

Sure, there are some things that you absolutely have to save money up for like bills, gas, food, etc. but after those things are paid, chances are you have some money to spend! And if you're super lucky and your parents still pay for your bills and you live at home during the summer you have even more to work with.

I'm not saying that you should spend everything you earn. That is clearly unreasonable, but you can stop feeling so guilty when you decide to take a trip with all your friends for the weekend. You will feel much better about being out a couple hundred bucks than you would having ultimate FOMO seeing all the fun everyone is having through SnapChat on your living room couch.

Making memories and having new experiences are important. In ten years, chances are you're going to remember the fun road trip your took with your friends, or the concert you went to. You're not going to regret the money you spent on them. You are better off eating Ramen more nights than you'd like and drinking cheap vodka than wishing you had just spent the money on that Red Sox game you really wanted to go to.

You can always pick up a few extra shifts, or apply to any and all on campus jobs in hopes of getting something that can help pay for your dominos addiction over the semester. There are so many ways to get yourself through the semester after dipping into your summer savings a little. You might regret it for a second while you're sitting in your room eating cereal for the third time that week, but when you remember just how much fun you had over the summer, it'll be worth it.

Have fun this summer, go out with your friends, do everything you want to do. You can always make more money, but you will never get this summer back. And for those of us who only have a few more summer's left before we it the real world, we have to cherish these moments. You have your whole life to make money, go out and experience life, we are too young to let money and work define us, it is time to live and have fun.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
