Everything You Need to Know About My $100 Uber Trip

Back in July, my sister, my friend, and I went to a Chris Brown concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. We were very excited about this concert but we didn't have enough money to get a hotel room in the heart of Cincinnati. My dad gets points that he can use to get hotel rooms, so we had to get a hotel that was about 20 minutes away from the concert venue in Erlanger, Kentucky. The good side to being that far away is that my dad said he'd pay for our Ubers to and from the venue.

Once we got to our hotel, we started getting glammed up for our big event. Going to see Chris Brown was so exciting because who wouldn't want to see a man as hot as him?! Anyway, after about three hours of outfit changes and attempts to put on fake lashes, we were ready to get the show on the road. We got on the Uber app and requested a driver to take us from our hotel to Riverbend Music Center. That ride was only $22, which was surprising in such a busy area.

We got to the concert a little late because of all the traffic, but we made it just in time for the opening acts that we wanted to see. The concert was full of people and turned out to be AMAZING! Chris Brown? One iconic man. We all had the best time and didn't want it to end, but unfortunately, it had to. After the concert was over, we started walking to the designated pick-up parking lot while trying to call an Uber. I got on the app to call one and the price had jumped up to $79. We all realized that we couldn't call one just yet. The prices would be high since the concert had just ended. We waited a bit before checking the prices again, but it only lowered a whopping two dollars.

I called my dad to tell him about the expensive prices. He had a fit but realized that Uber was the only way we could get home, so he gave us the OK to get one so that we could leave. The price for it ended up being $78, and we all felt really bad. The good part was that we had a really nice driver who was very outgoing. After about 30 minutes of traffic, we finally made it to our hotel.

After I got back to the room, I got the notification asking if I wanted to tip the driver. I opened the app and looked at the final price in shock. The overall total ended up being $101.31, not the $78 that we thought we were paying. My dad had just gotten the emailed receipt and called me in anger. 23 extra dollars were being charged for our ride and we had no clue why. My dad ended up calling the company and complained to them about the situation. That was the last time my father ever paid for any of my Ubers.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
