Summer Expectations Vs. Reality

You plan to travel to an exotic beach, but you end up on your couch watching Netflix.

Summer is my favorite season; I live for the hot weather, tanning outside by the pool, no school and long days of sunshine. Because of my love for summer, I always have high expectations when it rolls around and, more often than not, am hit with reality instead. Not that reality is bad, the summer still turns out great. But hey, the expectations in my head are pretty awesome too.

1. Expectation: I'll Meet The Love Of My Life While On Vacation

Reality: I Won't Have Even One Conversation With A Guy While On Vacation

So many movies have taught me that if I go on vacation I'll meet the love of my life. He'll approach me, ask me on a date and BAM! We'll fall in love. In reality, guys just stare at you on the beach and maybe yell out a catcall. SO ROMANTIC.

2. Expectation: I'll Use My Free Time To Learn A New Skill Or Hobby

Reality: I Spend All My Free Time Watching Netflix

I start every summer with the intention of learning a new instrument or language, but I always end up forgetting about it after a week and watching classic movies on Netflix instead.

3. Expectation: Taking Lots Of Road Trips

Reality: Gas Gets Expensive And I Can't Afford To Drive For Fun

It really isn't fair how much gas goes up every summer.

4. Expectation: Swimming And Tanning Every Single Day

Reality: Texas Weather Is Cruel

Yes, summer is drought season for Texas, but there always seems to be two weeks of constant rain. That's how it is in East Texas, at least.

5. Expectation: Getting Perfect Tan

Reality: Awful Tan Lines

All these new, trendy swimsuits leave the WORST tan lines.

6. Expectation: Eating Lots Of Fruit And Veggies

Reality: Eating Lots Of Ice Cream

Honestly this one is pretty great because ice cream tastes way better than fruit.

7. Expectation: Wearing Cute Summer Clothes

Reality: Wearing Norts And Loose Shirts

It just gets too dang hot to wear anything other than running shorts and loose fitting shirts.

Expectations or reality, summer is still the best season and I'm so happy it's here!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
