Occasionally someone walks into your life and you're not sure why. You see something in them that shines bright and takes your breath away. You slowly start to fall for them. Their eyes. Their smile. Their laugh. Their passion.
And then one day they walk out of your life as quickly as they walked in.
You're confused and sad and broken but in an attempt to pick up the pieces they left you with, you find yourself reaching out to them even though you know you shouldn't. You knew that they had slipped away the moment they had stopped calling and texting but, yet you continue to try and hold on to the hope that they will change, or you will eventually get the closure you need from them.
And then they say those words. The words that hurt but the words you need to hear, "I found someone else".
Although you are still in pieces, you suddenly feel better. Those were the most painful words you had heard in a long time, yet it was the closure you needed. It was the assurance you needed to move on and pick up the pieces of your life that had shattered right before your eyes. You finally heard what proved to you that you were right about their feelings about you and you should have gone with your gut in the beginning.
There are so many pieces. So many pieces of you that you have to put back together and so many pieces of them you have to suddenly let go of and forget about.
You slowly see yourself mending and the tears begin to stop falling. The days get better and the sun shines brighter but there is still a little hurt left inside you. You delete their messages and their contact falls to the bottom of your recents but they are still engrossed in you just a little. Stopping talking to them was so hard but you know it's the best thing for you.
And then one day you wake up and realize they are gone. The feelings are gone, the hurt is gone, and the pain is gone but the memories are still there. You suddenly remember the memories and why you fell for them in the first place. The eyes. The smile. The laugh. The passion. "Just push it out of your mind", you tell yourself, so you do.
Eventually, this cycle stops. You stop thinking about them and the hurt is completely gone. You no longer talk about them or think about them or see their name on your phone and then suddenly, one day, your roles are reversed.
They call you and say they miss you and they want you back. They say they miss talking to you and seeing you and suddenly they are willing to do all the things they wouldn't do for you in the beginning when you needed it the most. You panic but you decide not to give in. You remember the memories of them, but the painful memories scream louder than the pleasant ones. The screaming is so loud that you have to yell over the voices inside your head and suddenly you say it, the words they once said to you, "I found someone else".
And just like that, as quickly as it happened before, they are gone again and now they are the one left to pick up the pieces of you.
