I recently started going to therapy again and forgot how good it is to get help. Here are five reasons everyone should go to therapy, even you!
1. Everyone has problems.
Nobody is perfect. We all have internal problems, some of which we may or may or may not know how to control. We also all have external obstacles that we encounter over time. Going to therapy helps you to work through your problems and doesn't force you to work through them alone.
2. You learn a lot.
Therapists are super smart, and they often understand why we're feeling what we're feeling when we don't. They can teach you so many things. For example, how to deal with and tackle anxiety via a variety of methods.
3. It's nice to just have someone to talk to.
Therapists are an awesome unbiased resource. At the beginning of my freshman year, I utilized the counseling center, and I just really appreciated having someone to vent to and share my problems with that I didn't have to worry about seeing around the dorm or in class.
4. Life is hard.
While life is often full of beautiful and wonderful things, there is also a lot of hardship that accompanies each person's life. And some parts of life are harder than others, so it is so nice to have someone there to help get you through those tough times.
5. We don't always know what's wrong or how to properly cope.
Sometimes, it can be difficult to identify on our own what exactly is bothering us. Therapists can shed light on so many different areas we may be unaware of and can guide us down the most successful path for self-betterment and personal growth.
I recognize that there are a lot of obstacles to getting the help you might need, but there are a lot of resources designed to combat this. For example, check out The Other People Fund, an organization dedicated to helping other people pay for therapy.
