It's so easy to forget to be thankful for what you have.
You get busy, we all do. We get so busy and worried about what we need to do, where we need to be, and how we can do it all that we forget to be thankful for all of the little things that we have. Everyday things, things that we often spend our days complaining about, are actually things that we should be appreciating around the holidays.
Always remember, "happiness comes a lot easier when you stop complaining about your problems and you start being grateful for all the problems you don't have."
Here are 5 everyday things that we often complain about but should be grateful for around the holidays:
1. Waking up early for work
Every single day when your alarm rings, you groan and ask for just five more minutes. You're tired, you're stressed, and you don't want to go to work. But your alarm ringing at 6:00 in the morning means that you have somewhere to be. It means you are working hard for your family. It means you have a job, a job that some people would do anything for.
2. The pressure of finals week
The holidays are hard to enjoy when you are constantly worried about everything you have due and the finals that you have to study for. It's hard to be thankful when school has you mentally and physically drained. But being stressed about finals means you are in school. You are following your dreams. You are getting a degree, a degree that some people would do anything for.
3. The extra holiday weight
Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas cookies, and New Year's treats. You can try hard to keep it off, but extra weight around the holidays is something most people complain about. But extra weight means you are eating. You are eating good meals. You have food to put into your body, food that some people would do anything for.
4. The stress of money
The holidays are such a stressful time. You work hard to earn money to afford gifts, but then you end up missing out on a school play or a Christmas party. You go to the school play or party, and you miss out on the money. Every year it seems like our Christmas lists grow and we worry about how we can purchase gifts for people. But a long Christmas list means you have a lot of people you love. A lot of people that you care about. A ton of friends and family, friends and family that some people would do anything for.
5. Having a messy house
You come home from a long day to loads of laundry, a sink full of dishes, and unmade beds. You are frustrated because it seems as if you clean something and something else gets dirty. You worry about how you will clean this all up before your family comes over for Thanksgiving dinner. But a messy house means its full of family, pets, and kids. A messy house means you have a roof over your head. A messy house means you have a home, a home that some people would do anything for.
