This is not an article meant to bash or rant; it is to inform. It's nothing new, nothing you've never heard about before from your parents. However, it is great to know that when something bad has happened to you, there normally is someone else that has experienced the same problem and can offer a solution. Here is an article that addresses common skin issues and why taking care of your skin is so important.
Skin is the largest organ you have; it is the barrier protecting your insides from the outside. The insides should stay on the inside, which is why living beings have extra layers to make sure the ins stay on the inside and to keep contamination from entering the body. You need to pay close attention to your skin; many issues can occur overnight and may need to be taken care of quickly. It's important to know your skin and watch for any problems that may occur.
Once school starts back, your school will host many events in the great outdoors that, even though its hot, you'll still have to go, so in other words you'll be outside a lot!
Make friends with aloe vera. When you come back inside from being outside all day, it is a great idea to put on some aloe after a shower. Lotion works too; normally oatmeal infused or natural ingredient based works best. Scented creams may irritate your face and body after being in the sun for an extended amount of time. Fresh aloe is better, but most people don't have it on demand and it takes a bit for it to grow, for it to be of use. Your skin may feel dried up and itchy at times, so replenish with water.
Check for mosquito bites; during the summer you'll be outside quite often, especially late into the night when it is cooler. Mosquitoes are everywhere, and highly bothersome, but they happen. Make sure the itch is going away; put anti-itch medication on it when it itches. If by chance the bite becomes abnormal or causes a rash, seek help.
Sunburns are very common; cool showers and aloe help. To avoid this, avoid long direct periods of sun light and wear sunscreen. Put it on periodically! When it starts to peel try not to pick at it, and watch for any suspicious spots.
Acne: dealt with it since puberty and still occasionally deal with it. Eating specific foods such as fruits and veggies can help prevent breakouts. Create a skin care regiment, find the products that work for you and try not to use two skin care products too soon after the last one. That can cause irritation.
Moles: make sure the color and size does't change. Have your doctor examine any moles that have changed or were not there before.
Rashes can pop up anywhere on the body, sometimes randomly for no reason, sometimes from a food allergy, medication, or even makeup. Chlorinated water can sometimes relieve and heal the rash, bathing and swimming takes the sting out, and use cold packs to cool the area. Ointments may be necessary to clear the affected skin.
Love the sun, enjoy the fresh air, embrace the sunshine, and of course try not to get burnt. Take care of your skin.
