There’s an artist that I think will be on the rise soon. You may recognize his name from other pieces that I’ve written, Evan Stanley. He’s been pretty quiet since the beginning of the year. Lately, he’s been a bit more active on Instagram. Is this a sign that the young, talented musician is getting ready to unleash even more brilliance?
He displayed some of his brilliance in last year and a half with The Dives. With the group, he showed off some of his amazing writing talent and amazing guitar skills. At the age of 23, he certainly displays the skills of someone more seasoned. Some of his best skills are displayed in "Make It Like it the Movies" and "Take It All." This work falls under independent rock with some great pop hooks.
Some may be aware that the beginning of the year, Evan made an announcement to leave The Dives. While it sounded like a tough decision on the part of the young musician, he decided it was for the best as his musical interests were going in a different direction than that of the band.Ever since then, the social media enthusiast who was on nearly every day, sometimes two or three times, dropped off for some time.
Lately, he’s re-emerged on Instagram and posting some new videos. If anyone ever gets a chance I would recommend checking them out.
Based on what I’ve heard, this young artist has quite the career ahead of him. I’ve shared the videos with some friends and the first thing they hear is jazz being performed on an electric guitar. Certainly, not an easy feat, but he seems to make it look effortless.
The videos I’ve watched and listened to display something rarely heard and I’ve been trying to put a name to it. The sound is similar to jazz chords being played in rock progression. What would you call something like that? Rock jazz? Jazz-rock?
Then imagine the audience that could be reached. Jazz is a genre of music going back many decades. It is still prevalent in areas such as Washington, D.C and down south around New Orleans. And Rock continues to be a popular form of music for all walks of life.
I don’t think this boy needs his father’s fame to get going. Paul Stanley, the lead singer of KISS, has been going for more than forty years. However, Evan is coming to his own away from the popularity of KISS.
Now, I’m sure he’s learned some the lessons about what it takes to withstand the test of time. It will take a willingness to adapt to the changing media and some of the tastes. But more importantly, it will be holding true to himself and being there for the fans that will guarantee he will continue on for quite some time.
