Waking Up on the Wrong Side of the Hospital Bed

The van swerved its way in and out of traffic over hills until finally, the Golden Gate came into view. Harrison looked across the dark cavern of the van's belly at Lili who lay slumped against the van's outer wall. Blood trickled down from her hairline, and her face and arms were covered with scratches. Suddenly, the van came to a stop, and the banging of doors shook the van. Light poured into the trunk as the two men stepped in and roughly grabbed the two teens, dragging them towards a cold modern building with an enormous SFGR sign plastered on the top right-hand corner.

Cold air rushed over Harrison as he was led inside where more men and women in white lab coats stood waiting with two gurneys. Seeing that more restrictions were to come, Harrison began to struggle against his captor. The people in lab coats surged forward to help pull Harrison onto a gurney. Once strapped down, Harrison stopped struggling enough to watch Lili disappearing around the corner to the right on a gurney of her own. "Lili!" Harrison screamed as he again surged up against his bonds. Swiftly a bald man in a lab coat stepped forward and jammed a thick needle through Harrison's chest. The air was knocked from his lungs, and he fell into a dark sleep.

White lights blared into Lili's eyes when she finally came to. She hissed at the light and moved to cover her eyes with her arm, but it was strapped to the bed. She tried to howl with rage, but her mouth and throat were too dry, so she barely could gurgle out her frustration. Lili pulled and pushed and snapped at her bonds until exhausted she passed into a fitful sleep once more.

Harrison's eyes were slowly opened to an expanse of white. He breathed deeply, thankful for the deep and wonderful rest he just enjoyed. A small red headed woman moved into view and smiled, "good morning, Miss!" Harrison proclaimed. "You're in a good mood today HT96," she replied as she began taking his blood pressure. "Very calm today," she mused as she scribbled on a silver clipboard. "I have to say, I have never been happier!" Harrison crowed to the room.

The next time Lili came back into the conscious world, her wrists and ankles stung as the skin had been rubbed raw in her sleep by the straps on the bed. She furiously began to rub harder and harder against the straps, causing her wrists and ankles to start bleeding. Her voice had come back a bit now, and she growled with pain and frustration as she attempted to work her way out of her nylon confines. She focused on the straps, attempting to ignore the pain when suddenly one of the straps was cut clean and released her left wrist. She stared at it, curious as to how clean the cut was in the nylon. She turned and focused on her right wrist, and this time she saw it, several droplets of blood had gathered together and shot through the nylon like a razor blade. The droplets then dropped back onto her wrist.

Lili utilized this method for her two ankle straps and was quickly free to roam the room. She ripped the IV out of her hand and prowled the room, looking for anything that may help protect her on her escape route. After ten minutes of looking she had acquired three scalpels, a small saw, and a handful of thick needles already full of some kind of serum. Footsteps echoed down the exterior hallway, and she made her way behind the door against the wall, and she crouched and waited.

The door was pushed open, and a bald man in a lab coat made his way towards the bed. Before he had a chance to notice the missing patient, a needle was stabbed into his neck, the plunger pushed down, and as he made to grab his attacker, he fell onto the floor, hard, his head making a loud crack as it hit the tile, and a small pool of blood began to trickle from his bald head. Lili stepped on his body on her way out the door and slammed it shut behind her. Not even a flash of remorse crossed her mind as she hunted for her next kill.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
