Winter is coming which means in just a few short weeks Christmas will be just around the corner. If you are a college student like myself you know that winter break can be both the most relaxing time while also being one of the most stressful times of the year. You likely have not been home for a while so it feels like everyone wants to see you all at once. So in order for you to keep a clear mind this holiday season, here are just a few ideas to help you relax while also enjoying time with loved ones and not hurting your bank account.
1. Go sledding
Getting a sled from the dollar store and enjoying some child like activities is a great way to bond with younger relatives or just embracing the oncoming Christmas season.
2. Movie marathon
Make a list of the best Christmas/winter movies you can think of and fill your coffee table with the best snacks. It's going to be a long one.
3. Invent new holiday drink
Whether this means adult drink or just some really fancy hot chocolate, figure out what you like and start experimenting.
4. Christmas light spotting
A nice slow drive through the neighborhood while admiring Mrs. Smith's over the top Christmas decorations can be relaxing at the end of a busy day.
5. Donate old Christmas toys
All the clutter in the attic that your parents have been complaining about for years can finally find a good home this Christmas.
6. Visit any local Christmas festivals
Most local festivals are not going to cost you an arm and a leg, and they can usually become all day events so look up the schedules and be prepared.
7. Make homemade ornaments for the Christmas tree
Look up those cute Pinterest ideas you have been saving all year and get to crafting while listening to your favorite Christmas music playlist.
8. Attend a local ice rink for ice skating with friends
This will require a little bit of money but you are guranteed a great time with your favorite friends.
9. Attend any community theatre Christmas productions
Most community theatre is either free or has relatively cheap ticket prices. The plays are well thought out and definitely a great experience.
10. Plan a fun Christmas party
This is a great way to be sure you can see all of your favorite family and friends before you inevitably have to return to school. Look up some fun recipes and great gift exchange games for a fun night.
11. Knock out all the Christmas shopping early
The early you start your shopping, the cheaper items will be. Imagine how much the prices will raise the week before Christmas day.
So whether you are going home for this upcoming winter break or somewhere where snow is just a myth, make sure you are embracing the holiday spirit to the best of your ability.
