I can't believe my first semester as a Junior is slowly, but surely coming to an end. Honestly, college has been surprising me in the best ways possible. When I first started at Old Westbury, I didn't really have any expectations. Because I thought that if I had any expectations, I would be let down.
Looking back, I now realize that it wasn't good for me and I might have missed out on some pretty big experiences if I didn't change my mindset. I don't really know what it was that made me change my mind. Maybe it was the people I've met or the classes I took, I don't think I'll ever know what changed my outlook on my college career.
If it wasn't for my changed mindset, I wouldn't be as engaged as I am on campus. Originally, I was the first person who went to SUNY Old Westbury who used a wheelchair (or so I was told). Because of that, I had to advocate not only for myself but, people who are in a similar situation as me who want to attend OW.
I'm so glad to be making a difference on campus. My favorite motto to live by is "be the change you want to see in the world."
