Originally known as Ke$ha, Kesha has created a chill-inducing album that, in my opinion, is one of the best albums of the year. We all knew her from her climb to fame with her album 'Animal', including songs such as "We R Who We R", "Take It Off", "Your Love Is My Drug", "Die Young", "Blow", and "Crazy Kids".
You also may know her from listening to the song "Tik Tok" at every Bat-Mitzvah. While all of these songs were fun and great, this new stage of Kesha's career is something that I am completely consumed in. During what we all thought was a long break after her album 'Warrior', lied the most difficult 3 years of Kesha's life.
Kesha was forced to stop making music due to a law suit against Mr. Luke, part of her management, who she claimed had been sexually assaulting her for years.
Finally, 'Rainbow' was released, topping the charts with music that is a byproduct to what she has been through.
Not only is it remarkable that rainbow exists, but the fact that it's high quality is even more remarkable. Although still a pop album, it has more ballads, and even more of a country sound. It is genuinely difficult to find a favorite song off of this album due to its diverse sound.
It even includes a country duet with Dolly Parton, an anthem for anyone who has ever felt like an outcast ("Hymm"), and some glam-rock with
Eagles of Death Metal (“Boogie Feet”). This album has it all and no two songs are the same.
"Praying", the lead single of the album, is a power anthem for anyone who feels like they have lost a battle, how it is a struggle to survive, but is coming up stronger from that destructive person. The music video is even more powerful, beginning with a monologue that is impossible not to listen to on a loop.
Kesha has transformed her pain and heartache into something beautiful. If you're looking for a colorful assortment of music, definitely give 'Rainbow' a listen.
