Email Newsletters You Should Be Subscribing To

Between the 19 credits you're taking and endless extracurricular activities, you claim that you don’t have time to watch the news, follow pop culture, or stay in the know about the upcoming presidential election. But if you don’t have time to physically sit down and watch TV, why not stay up to date on your phone? Take a break from Instagram for 15 minutes to catch up with these four interesting email newsletters. I promise you’ll not only impress your friends with your newfound knowledge, but also yourself.

1. The Skimm.

The Skimm markets itself as the “daily e-mail newsletter that gives you everything you need to start your day.” Unfortunately it doesn’t deliver you a venti iced coffee, but the Skimm will definitely keep you occupied while you’re waiting in that long line at Starbucks. Starting off with a quote of the day, this daily morning newsletter provides everything you want to know happening in politics, world news, and celebrity life. The best part about theSkimm is that it focuses on one big story and follows with multiple smaller ones. And it removes the legal, political, and corporate jargon so you completely understand the main points. Always ending on a positive note, the Skimm loves their subscribers more than the news. You won’t finish this newsletter without reading about a giveaway or a slew of birthday wishes to their loyal fans. Subscribe at www.theskimm.com.

2. The New York Times Now.

Delivered every morning straight to your inbox before you even get out of bed, the New York Times Now, provides the latest and greatest news stories. Instead of paying $2.50 for the actual paper, this short, but thorough newsletter is a great alternative. The biggest news stories are first, summarized into concise paragraphs, making sure not to forget any major details. Then, the newsletter breaks into more precise sections catered to business or things worth noting. Lastly, the New York Times Now concludes with a “back story,” detailing a random bit of historic information. The New York Times Now is definitely the most straight forward of these email newsletters. Check it out at the nytimes.com.

3. The Newsette.

The Newsette is my new favorite daily email. Catered to young woman, the Newsette showcases everything you need to know related to pop culture, current fashion trends, and beauty fixes. The Newsette also provides a section for their favorite Instagram pics of the day, usually from fashion bloggers around the globe. Not only does this email newsletter provide you with fashion forward tips but it also focuses on topics their “readers crave.” Definitely subscribe if you want useful advice in your inbox every morning at thenewsette.com.

4. Think Clearly.

Think Clearly is a newsletter sent weekly. My favorite part about this newsletter is that it’s handwritten. Its goal is to inspire the readers to not only have a better day, but to be a better person. It’s designed with “reflection exercises” to help you get out of a rut, whether with work, family, or life in general. Some past newsletters dealt with how to tackle to-do lists, avoiding negative productivity, and finding your kryptonite. Short and sweet, Think Clearly inspires you to have a better day, week, and life in just one weekly email. Learn more at thnkclrly.com.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
