The state of Washington is dire. The government seems volatile and foolish, the president seems to be acting on impulse, and faith in our government to govern is decreasing by the minute.
That's what makes this upcoming election so important. If democrats are able to dethrone Trump they will have a new surge in political capital. The concept that change will be easier to make (barring of course support from congress but that's a different story).
As the filed continues to thin out - what should we look for in our future candidate? The answer to this question, in my opinion, is quite complex. Whether you lean towards the changes of Bernie and Warren or the middle ground of Pete and Biden; it comes down to electibility. Whoever we pick as our nominee at the end of the day they must be able to prove that they are the most electible candidate.
Electibility is a complex concept in and of itself. But personally I think it encompasses two main things: keeping a majority of the democratic base with you, and bring out new voters. The ability to switch back Obama-Trump voters as well as bring new people to the polls can prove futile to defeating Donald Trump. This nominee will be more powerful than any in recent history, if democrats miss this opportunity the lost momentum may cost seats in tight congressional districts and more. The unique ripple effects makes this election all the more important.
Whoever you decide to back, go out there and get people to vote in the polls. Getting more people involved is the only way we are going to win this fight. So get involved, get your hands dirty, write articles (I guess?). Encourage new voters and don't get discouraged. It will pay off, this time around people won't be crying at the election party.
