8 Signs You Know Fall Is On Its Way

Fall is one of the seasons I look forward to most. As soon as the semester started, I wake up in the morning, check the weather, see that it would be in the mid-80's for the day, and look over at my roommate and say, "I need fall to come now".

But this past week, the weather has been getting chilly and the leaves have been falling, so I thought it was appropriate to make a post about fall's long-awaited arrival. Here are eight signs you know fall is coming:

1. The Obvious: Cold Mornings and Warm Afternoons

I have classes that run from 8:10 AM to literally 9:00 PM, so I know this one very well. Just a few days ago, I walked out in the cold at 7:45 AM in a long sleeve, leggings, and moccasins. By 2:00 PM, I was damn near sweating just walking a block to the bus stop. Again, by 9:30 PM, I was cold again.

2. Everyone has a PSL in their hands before class

I've personally never had one (UNPOPULAR OPINION: I'd rather opt for hazelnut iced coffee from Dunkin'), but now with my coffee addiction back in full speed, I'm ready to try it to see what the real hype is all about.

3. Yankee Candle starts shelving their autumn-themed candles. Pumpkin Buttercream, anyone?

When I was younger, my school used to give out these fundraisers for Yankee Candles during autumn, which always excited me because.

1) who doesn't like good smelling candles and

2) fire is pretty cool.

I love going to the mall and just walking past the Yankee Candle store (but never going in because I'd spend my entire paycheck there), and just smelling the scents that remind me of my childhood.

4. Scholastic Book Fairs at Elementary Schools and Book Sales at local libraries

Still riding the nostalgic train, Scholastic Book Fairs at my elementary school used to signify fall time. A library by my house used to have book sales every fall when school started, too. It used to be five dollars to fill a huge paper bag and my parents would hand me a $20 bill and I would literally struggle walking out of the library with four huge bags in my hand.

5. Freeform, Syfy, AMC starts advertising their Halloween-themed movie marathons all October

Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, The Addam's Family, A Nightmare on Elm's Street, Carrie, and the Shining....... I just really love Halloween movies.

6. Nature starts looking prettier despite the fact that everything's dying

I just really like walking to class and kicking through the falling leaves. It's so aesthetically pleasing to me.

7. Every album by Bon Iver and Michael Buble get recommended on Apple Music for you

I also really like Bon Iver because I "discovered" his music in the fall of my Freshman year of high school and I've been hooked ever since. During autumn and winter, I have all his albums on full blast, especially his first one.

8. No matter where you live or how warm it is because of global warming... October automatically means FALL.

Happy fall!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
