Alright ladies and gentlemen, before you start to read this article in a defensive manor, I'm going to need you to stop.
This is not directed at any party in particular, at fans of any specific politician, or literally any possible other thing you might be ready to argue about.
What this IS about is the need to do your research before you submit your vote, in any election.
Are you a Democrat? Cool. A Republican? Good for you. Some other obscure party that I do not even know exists? Wonderful. I'm very glad that you are all proud of the party you identify with and all that, but I need you to stop.
Now once again, do not get defensive here. I'm not saying that you should not associate yourself with a certain political party, but if your version of being in that party is blindly voting for people in that party then you are wrong.
I get it, most likely Republicans will agree with Republican candidates and Democrats will agree with Democratic candidates, and that's how it should be, right? Right, but have we not learned to that we cannot just assume things are as they should be?
So what I am asking you to do is to go research the candidates that represent your party. And then go and research the people that represent other parties. Ignore whether they say D or R or are blue or red, yes really ignore it. And then pick the candidates that you agree with, and vote for them regardless of party.
We've reached a point in this political world that we care more if Republicans or Democrats are in charge than we care if the people in charge are people we trust to make decisions with the entire nation's best interest at heart. Let me rephrase that so it's extra clear, vote for the best interest of the United States, not the best interest of your political party.
I urge you to vote. It is really, really important, and we are lucky that we have the ability to go vote. But before you vote, make sure you are educated and ready to stop worrying about blindly supporting the party and are ready to start being in actual support of our country.
So now go ahead and find somewhere else to be defensive, the one thing both parties have in common is their love to argue with the other. But maybe find a way to do so respectfully, and make sure those politicians you are defending are people you actually agree with. It's important.
