8 Reasons Why Everyone Should Visit Edinburgh, Scotland

I got to study abroad in England and Scotland over spring break. I started my adventures in Edinburgh, Scotland and, to be honest, I wasn't overly excited for it. I wanted to just pick up and head to England. When I got to Edinburgh, I quickly realized that I would never want to leave. So why should anyone pick up and head to Edinburgh? Well...

1. Holyrood Palace

A place that you can tour in and it's totally worth it. If you're into history then there's a ton of it in there. If you're less into history (such as myself) then there's also the added excitement of knowing that this is where Queen Elizabeth II stays when she's in Scotland. There are also gardens open outside of the winter months, which unfortunately I was unable to see. The place is gorgeous and totally amazing for photos.

2. The architecture is super cool.

3. If you love the outdoors

...but are traveling with a bunch of people who are more into the city, Edinburgh is the best of both. It's the capital city and it is like many big cities, only it also is full of gorgeous greenery that you can go explore

4. Hiking

Up the green mountain in the center of the city brings you to an AMAZING view of Edinburgh. It's not a major hike, but even if you are low on stamina the end product is worth the fatigue.

5. Ancient-looking monuments

They are everywhere and they're absolutely incredible. Everywhere I went I found myself in awe of all that was around me.

6. The Castle of Edinburgh

It is beautiful, gives a wonderful view of the city, allows you to see Scottish crowned jewels, and, if nothing else, the gift shop isn't that expensive. It was a great place to tour and I would recommend it to anyone.

7. John Knox's house

This is located in Edinburgh and is perfect for anyone who loves history and/or theology. The house is very surreal for those interested in the topic. There's just something amazing about standing in such an influential person's house.

8. SHOPPING!!!!

Where else will you be able to go for a legit kilt? The culture is awesome and the shopping is great. What more can you want from your travels, right?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
