December 13th, 2015. 1:29 AM. The day and time that life as we knew it changed. The day and time that Ed Sheeran posted an announcement on all of his social media explaining that he would be “taking a break” from the spotlight. Only being left with a “see you next autumn” and the confirmation that he would, indeed, be returning with music in the future… but when in the future?
Now, let’s fast forward.
Thursday, September 22nd, 2016. The first day of Fall. The day that everyone on social media was questioning whether Ed would make his grand return. After all, it is finally “next autumn,” right? Right… But WRONG. Ed is still nowhere to be found.
December 13th, 2016. 1:29 AM. The day he finally made his return. “How?” you may ask. By simply posting a picture of blue. That’s right, folks. Blue. He changed the profile photos and icons and banners on all of his social media to blue. “Why?” I, honestly, could not tell you.
Weeks pass. We are still unknown as to what this wave of blue means for our Ed Sheeran involved future.
January 1st, 2017. Ed Sheeran saves the entirety of 2017 by posting a 9-second silent video of him staring into the camera, waving, and holding a piece of paper with the writing “New Music Coming Friday!!” YES!!!
January 2nd, 2017. Ed posts another 9-second video of a blue background with a subtract sign, alternating to a division sign. Keeping up with the mathematical album title trend that Ed has with his first album (“Plus”) and his second album (“Multiply”), one can assume that Ed is hinting to his third album being either “Minus” or “Divide.” (My money is on “Divide”).
New single? New album? Currently unknown. Lucky for us, we will find out in just a few more days. I’m not sure about you, but I have never been more excited about a music release than I am for this one!
