It's been a long time coming for Marc and Allister Blackham, also known as the EC Twins. The duo has been in the music scene for years, having played shows around the country and major festivals as well. They recently inked an international record deal with Sony Music and released their single "Revolution" in mid-November.

Congratulations on the record deal with Sony Music! What are you guys looking forward to the most with this new deal?
EC:Thanks so much. The thing that is by far the most exciting to us is the fact that we will finally have some real support. It feels as though, up until this point, we have had to do everything on our own and we've always felt like outsiders. It's very cathartic to finally have some back up.
What were some of the inspirations for your new single Revolution?
EC: The idea to make the song was inspired, in large part, by Bernie Sanders, but since then the lyrics have ironically become even more profound. The production is a combination of the retro synth styles we have been playing with recently and a happy melody, to give the track an optimistic feel and add a levity to a fairly serious lyrical message written by the legendary Tracy Chapman.
Plans for the future? What can we expect?
EC: We are focusing on putting out the best tracks we have been working on for the past few months, all of this new music is going to lead the evolution of our brand along with new logos, imagery and an expansion on our live show.
You guys play high energy-level shows to a lot of clubs…what are some of your favorite venues to play?
EC: Anywhere that the crowd is prepared to behave like lunatics. It could be a small club, with only a few hundred, or a larger festival with a few hundred thousand, it's all the same to us, we just love what we do with an immeasurable passion.
You live in LA now, but are originally from Manchester. Do you ever go back? Are there any differences between the EDM scene there and here?
EC: We haven't been back home since we left high school. We grew up in a very poor and quite violent neighborhood. It was one of those nothing to lose types of departures that many people make from their hometown. In Manchester's defense, it's always been a historically important place musically and was pivotal in house & electronic musics history. We were VERY influenced by the music scene of Manchester growing up, it certainly influenced the careers we have today.
You guys kind of have a rag-to-riches story. Any advice for aspiring DJs?
EC: It's kinda cliche, but you must never give up. We have taken A LOT of rejection to get to the place we are at today, people from our backgrounds aren't really supposed to be in these types of positions, so you're going to have to work really hard be resilient and undeniably good to make it to the top. Don't despair though, it's been our experience that poor kids are often really good at getting shit done, usually because they have no other choice. Other than that? Don't take any shit from anyone.
Favorite artists? Who do you think is doing a good job of keeping up with the music industry?
EC: We are HUGE fans of music (obsessed) but we don't really care much for musicians. That is not to say that in any way we are negative about musicians, quite the opposite. It's simply that we find it better to listen to music with an unbiased ear. Of course we have respect for those who have helped pioneer the music, Daft Punk spring to mind and in the Dj world guys who have maintained a career like Tiesto And Erick Morillio have earned our respect, but the art is always more important to us than the artist and we include EC Twins in that statement too.
You two have been in the music scene for a while…any trends that you see or observations about the future?
EC: There's going to be another big wave coming along. The current club hip hop trend is starting to sound stale and cheesy, people are getting bored of it, so we can expect another wave of electronic music to manifest itself soon. Personally we are having the time of our lives in the studio, as currently there is an "anything goes" attitude in our industry. One day we can make a sophisticated and soulful track, the very next day, if we feel like it, we make a balls to the wall banger. It's a lot of fun. The exciting thing about our scene is that it constantly evolves and we always want to make sure we are on the cutting edge. When that next wave breaks you can bet we will have paddled out onto it, and will be ready to ride it hard;-)
