This little cluster of chemicals is what makes up melanin, aka the color of our skin. This is what has sparked hate and cruelty throughout the history of mankind, particularly in the U.S.
Why on Earth people have judged one another, killed one another, hated one another based on the levels of melanin in their bodies is an atrocity. I for one am literally sickened and horrified by the events that took place recently in Charlottesville, VA. It's as if we're going backward as a people.
There is no room in the world for race-based hate or any hate for that matter. Just because someone is black does not mean they are less than someone who is white, for instance. Skin color has no connection to someone's character. Racism is evil and those who support racism are carrying out evil. It's unnecessary hate and discrimination that will continue to divide us as humans.
Though I love this country I honestly am starting to be ashamed of it. I am ashamed of the America we currently live in. And people can blame the government and Trump all they want, but he didn't do this, we did. We as Americans have let this happen.
Actions speak louder than words. Yes expressing our beliefs through social media is important, but we should aspire to be this vocal in real life too and actually do something. It's 2017. Whether you're black, white, LGBT, male, female or whatever your identity is, we are all people living on one planet. If you think your race/gender/orientation is better than another's, you are part of the current issue plaguing society right now.
We can all fix this situation. It starts with making small changes in our daily lives that can grow into large-scale ones. For instance, if you see something say something! See something racist? Speak out! See something sexist? Speak out! And so on.
America is the land of the free where there is justice promised for all. We are all immigrants from somewhere and everyone living here has the same dream-to be free. If we really want to "make America great again" we need to each take matters into our own hands and stop this hate and this violence. We want to leave a country for future generations to grow up in that is accepting and caring of all. The time to act is now or any dignity this country has left will be obliterated for good.
