Vacations are supposed to be relaxing and worry free, but finding a place to eat that everyone will like is difficult. When you’re vegan, you usually look for the thing you can eat on the menu rather than what you want to eat. I admit, vegan options are few in most mainstream places, especially on a boardwalk specializing in quick pizza slices or funnel cake. That doesn’t mean you have to settle on another house salad. And now, you don’t have to waste your time reading every menu on the boardwalk because here are 15 places where you can eat vegan at Wildwood, New Jersey.

1. Doo Wop Diner

Probably one of the most scenic restaurants on the boardwalk, the Doo Wop Diner is full of old-time memorabilia. Your main options are a portobello mushroom burger or veggie burger, which comes with fries and a pickle. And although they don’t advertise it, they use Veganaise dressing. Plus, with a few substitutions, you can have a delicious burrito wrap with black beans, corn, avocado, and veggie burger. It’s pretty delicious.

2. The Hot Spot

I've been to this restaurant two nights in a row, and I order the same exact thing every year: Falafel and hummus pita with sweet potato fries. However, you can also get a veggie gyro without tzatziki sauce or an eggplant parmesan sandwich without the cheese (it’s still delicious, trust me). It’s a nice and very satisfying Greek place, and they’re not stingy on the fries.

3. Polish Water Ice

If you ever step foot on the boardwalk, you need to try Polish Water Ice. The soda-based ice is completely dairy-free, and it's a lot creamier than Italian ice. With an assortment of flavors from cotton candy to green apple to chocolate, it’s absolutely delicious. There are stands all over the boardwalk, and for good reason. You can try a free sample before deciding on a flavor, or you can walk the boardwalk and end up with seven tiny spoons in your pocket.

4. Rita's

If you prefer Italian ice over Polish, you can get a Rita’s ice or a vegan pretzel.

5. Ice Cream Dots

And if dots are more your style, you can get Rainbow Dippin' Dots or Mini Melts. The rainbow ones were always the best anyway.

6. Cool Scoops Ice Cream Parlor

This ice cream parlor is on New Jersey Ave, a few blocks away from the boardwalk, but it’s well worth the walk (or the tram car ride). It’s like an old 50s ice cream shop, jukebox and all. You can eat your chocolate or vanilla soy-based ice cream in a classic car booth or at the bar while listening to Elvis and The Beatles. They even have a posted list of certified vegan toppings and cones to make everything 1,000x easier.

7. Epicure

This vegetarian restaurant is also on New Jersey Ave, and although I haven't been there yet, it has pretty good reviews. It has a lot of veg options and it's a lot healthier than your average boardwalk cuisine. Epicure for dinner and Cool Scoops for dessert maybe?

8. The Wild Burrito

You might want to look for a hotel near New Jersey Ave. Although The Wild Burrito is not a fully vegan restaurant, they have Dayi cheese, dairy-free sour cream, and seitan. There are numerous completely vegan options to order without having to substitute anything. You can finally get cheesey nachos or a burrito that’s not lacking half the fixings. They even have a vegan breakfast burrito with tofu scramble.

9. Aloha Smoothies

This new smoothie place is located in Morey's Adventure Pier, and it’s boasted as “the healthiest on the boardwalk.” You can get smoothies with fruit and add-ins such as chia seeds, and you can even get a trendy smoothie bowl.

10. Curly's

But sometimes all you need is a huge bucket of fries with some salt and ketchup. Simple enough.

11. Thirsty Miner's Lemonade

To stay hydrated, you can buy a huge cup of (very) sweet lemonade or orange-ade and refill it throughout the night for a reduced price. It’s water, lemons, and a LOT of sugar.

12. Stewart's Rootbeer

Here, you can change any burger dish to a veggie burger, which opens up a lot of options. Plus, you can sit on the roof to watch the sun set and the ferris wheel light up.

13. Auntie Anne's

According to peta2.com, the original, cinnamon sugar, sweet almond, garlic, jalapeno, and raisin pretzels can all be made vegan if you ask for no butter. Finally, vegans can kick their soft pretzel game up a notch.

14. Purple Jalepeno

It's pretty much Chipotle, but with purple and green walls and more salsa options (but sadly no sofritas).

15. Candy Stands

Don't miss out on the fun of playing the game of chance! Stay on the look-out for accidentally vegan prizes such as Swedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers, and Sour Patch Kids!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
