In the fast-paced lives of millennials, it can be hard to keep up with what is going on in the world around us. Personally not even having cable in my apartment, I have to find different outlets to stay in touch. Here are a couple of good ideas to try for yourselves!
1. Associated Press App
Associated Press has always been known to shoot straight when it comes to bias in the news. They always report what happens and make sure to give you all the details. This app gives you the option to turn on notifications and when anything important or relevant happens in the world, you're the first to know. You receive a short lead on what is happening and sometimes it is before the story is even published because it is so new. Definitely, a beneficial app to install if you don't necessarily have time to be watching the news or surfing the web throughout the day.
2. The Skimm
Once signed up, you receive an email to your inbox daily with all of the latest news summed up in a quirky, interesting, sassy way. The writers for this news source can sometimes be downright hilarious when it comes to the events happening day to day. What I enjoy most though, is how it breaks down concepts that could be hard to understand so you know exactly what's up. Plus, if you share to any of your social media, you can win prizes! Who doesn't love prizes?
3. E! News App
World news and politics are very important, yes. But I think it is safe to say we all need a little juicy celebrity gossip every now and again. I've been an avid E! News watcher and web site frequent but when I found out they had an app, I was shook. You can scroll through to read the latest stories, see the latest pictures and much more. But like the AP app, you get breaking news notifications, so yes, I was the first of my friends to know Beyonce had her twins...
4. CNN.com
Usually while sitting in class I pull my browser up to CNN.com. There are always the latest stories and breaking news, plus so so much more to know about that is going on in our world. Just a quick skim through the top stories and clicking on their easy tabs can give you enough knowledge of what college students should be tuning into. It's not all politics either! You can explore Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Style and Travel as well!
5. Daily Gamecock
More specific to my fellow Gamecocks, the Daily Gamecock is a student-led online and print newspaper that gives you all the latest news about the University of South Carolina and other important things they feel we should know. They have the latest stories about our Student Body President, ways to help you find housing on or near campus, all the latest sports stats and so much more. Show some support and check it out!
6. Cola Daily
Like the Skimm, once signed up this Columbia-based news organization sends you daily emails informing you of the news around the local area. Since most of us are not from here, it is good to know what is going on in and around where you're living! You can also find things that you may need like a local doctor or job listings in your area.
It can be soemtimes difficult to keep up with the world around you in between school, work, your social life and your family. But simple things like these can really help to keep you sharp in an easy way! Find time to skim through some news to stay up-to-date. It is a good way to prove to your parents and friends that you can be good at adulting.
