In the summertime it is easy to get distracted from your healthy lifestyle by everything else that is going on. The simple tips I've listed below are easy ways to stay healthy this summer. Making your health a priority is hard, but doing little things to stay healthy is easy and effective. So, try it!
1. Don’t forget your sunscreen.
You may love to lay out and tan all day, but your body doesn’t. Sunscreen and a sunhat can protect you from getting too much sun, effectively reducing your risk of cancer and sunburn.
2. Find out what is in season in your area.
Fresh, in season, locally grown fruits and veggies are great summer snacks. Sticking to these instead of the junk you may think you need are is a great way to eat healthier this summer.
3. Drink up!
In the hot summer sun it is super important to keep yourself hydrated. Drinking lots of water during the day can protect you from dehydration. By using cute summery water bottles or adding fruit to your water you can make it a little bit more exciting, which will only encourage you to drink more!
4. Get outside!
The weather is beautiful, so enjoy it. Go outside for a run, a walk or a swim. Anything to get you moving is beneficial. So embrace the summer weather and get moving.
5. Don’t forget to sleep!
Whether you are out with friends or just watching Netflix, it is easy to put off sleeping due to a lack of commitments in the summer. But it is important to prioritize sleep. It’s good for you and it makes you feel better.
6. Eat at home more!
With summer comes more free time, which makes it easy to go out to eat frequently. By making the extra effort to eat at home you can be eating a lot better this summer. Restaurant food can be unhealthy and the bread before the meal doesn’t help.
7. Try to stay away from fried food.
Fried everything seems to be on the menu every summer. Make it your goal to eat more fresh food than fried food and you will be eating infinitely healthier.
8. Walk more.
The sun is shining! The birds are chirping! If you can walk to where you are going, or ride there on a bike, pick that over driving. It will sneak miniature workouts into your day to keep you more active (and you can load up on Fitbit steps).
9. Plan time to eat.
Eating only at planned mealtimes is much better than snacking all day. Focusing on your meal and only eating during that time means being mindful about the food you put in your body and you are more likely to eat better.
10. Keep healthy snacks around.
While it is better to eat planned meals instead of snacks, if you must snack, make it healthy. Keeping healthy snacks (like fruits and veggies, granola bars, or unsweetened dried fruit) around ensures that when you do snack it is on something healthy.
