How can 3 people from the same family be so completely different?

Dysfunctionally Functional

Over the weekend, I went home for a few days because the football game was in Auburn and quite frankly, I was worn out from the past two weeks of constant studying and little sleep. Coming home after being away for a while really makes the characteristics of your family members stand out more than when being with them every day. As I backtracked into my childhood routines for the weekend, I noticed how completely different my siblings and I were from one another.

I am the oldest child, so of course I am the one with the most pressure and eyes following me daily. Ever since I had siblings, I was the one who got into the most trouble and was held most accountable for my actions. I have always been studious and caring, while also being smart-mouthed and hardheaded. I have a pretty equivalent mix of both of my parents' personalities. While you would think the same would be true for my brother and sister, our personalities seem to be almost opposite.

My 14 year old sister, Caroline, carries more extreme traits from my parents, like sensitivity and attitude. Caroline is sweet and loving sometimes, but only when she thinks it will benefit her! She isn't the "touchy feely" type. She is very different from my brother and me in the social aspects of life. She is very opinionated and gets extremely worked up over EVERYTHING, while Davis and I are more go-with-the-flow type people. While I care about what people think of me, Caroline cares to the point of one opinion messing up her entire day. Unlike my brother and me, she has a very old soul. She likes to be alone and do her own thing, while we like to be in more social settings. Neither of my parents are this way, which is why I am so interested in the idea of the various types of personalities within a family.

My 13 year old brother, Davis, definitely got the more nonchalant characteristics of my parents. He does not care to study, nor does he care what people think of him. He, like Caroline, does his own thing without a care of the consequences. While he is not as studious as Caroline and me, he has the most common sense and quick thinking out of the three of us. He can think of a comment or comeback in .5 seconds and can act on anything right in the moment. Davis is sensitive and loving, but only shows it to a few people…mostly me and our mom. He and I get along really well, but it is a rare moment when he and Caroline do. She stays mad at him for just being in our lives and he doesn't care one bit! He loves to annoy her and get her fired up!

I love my siblings and I love my parents so much, even though we are all so different. Life would be so boring if we were all alike!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
