"You look so nice today." "Looking very dapper today!" "I love your bowtie!"

These are things I hear quite often while walking through the halls of my University, and it's all thanks to my "Dress for success, don't look like mess" mantra (#DressForSuccessDontBeAMess). I am a strong believer that how you dress affects how you feel, so I make it a priority to wear nice attire every day. I own more button down long sleeve shirts than most 20-year-olds, and I am proud of it. Many disheveled delinquents disagree with my mantra, probably because those people are wearing sweatpants (not that I have anything against that...) But just to prove to you that I am in fact correct, I have three movie characters that decided to follow my hashtag. This is their story.

Cinderella

Cindy was struggling to make ends meet at her job at the diner. She always forgot to punch in, and when she did punch in she was spilling brightly colored sodas onto every soccer mom in white pants. Her struggles were probably because she was wearing rags, like literal rags. Now, I know this is a trend with young people; cutting up their jeans to look as if they accidentally got dropped in a wood chipper, but does that outfit really feel successful to you? Thankfully she spiced it up a bit with her wardrobe, and there was a drastic shift in how she felt.

She not only has an amazing dress, but she is now flaunting her gorgeous smile, after that miraculous dental work. In addition she has finally saved up enough to buy a new crib, and move out of her parent's house, which I heard was very unsanitary- mice running around all the time...

Okay, I know what you are thinking "Cinderella isn't real, she's just a cartoon." Let us look at the real life Cinderella:

She seems to be very real and doing just fine. Look at her completely candid pose, and she has even decorated the room with gorgeous flowers. Many congratulations to Cinderella on her journey to success. #DressForSuccessDontBeAMess

Mr. Incredible

Mr. Incredible's life was anything but satisfactory. Having to hide his super hero identity, his marriage was feeling strained, and dealing with irritable old ladies at the insurance company were just some of this hero's problems. Families are hard enough to raise, but when you break the plate while cutting your steak with your super strength and feel uncomfortable in your baggy shirt, that is when you realize "I need to change my life."

Thankfully Mr. Incredible was able to get something more form fitting and it changed his outlook on the world. His family and marriage was closer and stronger than ever. His feeling of purpose and fulfillment had returned as he was able to return to his true calling: fighting crime. Congratulations Mr. Incredible, your story continues to inspire me to this day. #DressForSuccessDontBeAMess

Sandy Dumbrowski

Sandy might be smiling, but when this photo was taken she was failing all of her classes, except gym, because she was exempt (full leg cast is not in the picture.) For some people, yellow is not their color and Sandy is definitely the kind of person that benefits more from darker clothing.

Ms. Dumbrowski went through a full transformation of "school girl geek with a full leg cast" to "sexy high schooler whose cast is getting removed in a couple weeks." After Miss Sandra Dee started dressing in darker colors her grades started improving and the girl behind her would laugh at everything she would say. Sandy, thank you for inspiring me to wear some darker clothing. #DressForSuccessDontBeAMess

It only goes to show that these film characters were far more successful when they started dressing for success and quit being a mess. I challenge you to start improving your wardrobe choices everyday and see how you feel.

Be sure to hashtag #DressForSuccessDontBeAMess, Cinderella has been known to like a few Instagram posts with that hashtag attached.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
