Dream Wedding

Cheap, simple wedding idea

Every girl dreams of her big white wedding. Maybe you want something big with 7 bridesmaids and a large gathering. Maybe you envision a cathedral with a long aisle to walk down. Perhaps your groom is the typical tall dark and handsome type.

These are the weddings I see my friends having; big extravagant and expensive. My problem with such weddings is the cost for something that statistically in modern society doesn’t last very long. I’ve personally known people who had such an expensive and extravagant wedding and the marriage barely lasted a year. My other problem is how quickly women want to rush into these weddings.

Call me unconventional, but I have a different white wedding in mind. Some might call me a bit medieval. I still hold to the convention of basic courting and meeting the parents. I also still think it appropriate to be engaged for some time before planning that white wedding and saying ‘I do’.

My dream for that white wedding involves a very different theme. I’ve seen the fairy tale princess wedding and wasn’t all that impressed. I’ve participated in a simpler wedding with an outdoor reception, but it still had a more extravagant dress than I would personally choose. Right now I’m part of one of the big outdoor weddings with a country theme. Not my personal style either, I just think it’s too much.

I envision something different from the contemporary bride and I’m not afraid to admit it. The picture in my head is a much smaller gathering and very simple.

I want a Renaissance wedding. The cost is really half of what most brides are spending on a ceremony and reception. I’d like to keep the gathering to just my close family and the groom’s close family. I see a total of three bridesmaids and three groomsmen. The rest will only be the closest friends.

I like the colors royal blue and a plum color for the dresses, I’d like them to be two toned with the royal blue outer lay and a plum inlay and full length stopping just above the ankles and enough of a skirt to allow movement and is not constricting.

My dress is going to be simple, full length dress. I don’t want a gown, but I do want a skirt that I can easily clasp a little higher during the reception. The color is a pure white and hangs at the shoulders, similar to a gypsy’s dress and a flower wreath head piece of blue and purple flowers. My mom is also going to make me a white choker with a single flower to wear. My shoes are high and pure white for the ceremony and then during the reception my mom is going to make me a pair of bottomless sandals. This is similar to a full length bracelet that loops around the middle finger and goes up the arm but instead is around the ankle.

The bouquets are roses that have the metal stems and glass finish for the flowers in royal blue and plum. This will also make a nice gift for the bridesmaids. My mom and I have also found the perfect design for crocheted flowers to add to the bouquets.

I know it all sounds quirky and medieval, but it also sounds like fun and much simpler than the average wedding. To the guy that wants to marry me, here’s a heads up to my strange preferences. I’m willing to compromise on many things and I’m pretty easy going. The only thing that I really require is someone to share in all the adventure, cray and quirky that is my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
