I Got My Dream Job, And I Didn't Even Know I Could Apply For It
Lauren Barnette

Recently, I was just hanging out, doing my usual thing scrolling on my phone when I get a message from my EIC, Ciara. As my current EIC is graduating (Go Ciara!), she is leaving her position as EIC for our community, and was in the process of looking for her replacement. Lucky for me, she thought I would be great for the role! I love writing for odyssey, and I would love to turn this kind of work into a career, I just didn't know how I would do it just yet.

I met with Ciara, talked about the position and decided that it would be a great oppurtunity to apply for. She let our contact at Odyssey HQ know, and we set up a phone interview. I was nervous, but I was confident in my abilities and truly believed that I would be great for the job. Later that night, I ran into Ciara, and told her about the call, and how I was excited to hear by the following Monday if I had received the position.

She asked how my day was going, I had just left a great event planned by one of my co-workers (I work for our Activities and Campus Events Board), and my day was going great. To my surprise, Ciara said to me, "Would you like for your day to get better?" I of course started freaking out, covered my mouth and said, "No way!" She then looked at me and said, "You're the new EIC for our community!" I couldn't believe it.

This job is the opportunity of a lifetime. Getting to put this under my belt will make me stand out in the future, and open up opportunities on its own as well. I have been editing for two weeks, and I absolutely love it. I get to read all of my creators amazing pieces, and I love getting to know them through their work! I'm excited to work further in this position, and see where it takes me!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
