In an interview, Draymond Green had a critical opinion about the recent actions of certain teams of late. NBA stars, Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond are being forced as Inactives to preserve their value on the trade market to teams with needs at their positions.
Green, in a fiery statement, decried this. He stated that there was an obvious double standard when it came to the reactions to the players in comparison to the players.
He used the James Harden situation as an example. Harden held out near the beginning of the season, refusing to play and stay in shape because he wanted to be traded out of Houston. He eventually got his wish and was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
Harden received a lot of criticism, was called a cancer on the locker room , etc etc. This however plays into Green's message. He talks abut the inherent double standards between when a player wants to be traded and when an organization wants a certain player to be traded
This has definitely been an issue brewing in the league, the question of player freedom.
While heated and arguably inappropriate, Green speaks a lot of truths in his statement. Players who ask to be traded, who want a better situation for one reason or another, constantly put their career and their reputation on the line. As previously stated, they are callled cancers in the lockerrooms, problems, etc.
There is not that standard for organizations. Organizations can bring players in and out and most people accept it because it is assumed to be part of the business.
Most people would say that there needs to be a common understanding between players and their respective organizations. If organizations expect the players to respect them and not be "cancers in the lockerroom," they have to show the players that same respect.
